As Close To Real As It Gets

A former senior executive of a $3.5 billion packaging company contacted us after conceiving of producing inexpensive samples of kitchen counter surfaces in 2 and 3 dimensions. These samples would represent a variety of stone materials through the use of a high-resolution printing process that creates a look that’s virtually indistinguishable from the real thing.

Thermoform molds were created and parts quickly formed in-house to create the first prototypes. Various shapes and configurations were explored virtually, and were rendered with a variety of stone textures (as well as with no texture). These renderings were used to generate feedback from potential customers and for early sales meetings. Within three days of approaching us, we transformed his innovative ideas into working CAD models and a rapid prototype.
After two weeks, we took his printed samples and turned them into thermoformed samples for sales presentations. He has been able to successfully fill a market niche that no other company has, and Surface Reproductions’ products are now being used at building material retailers.
